Annie Onyi Cheung
Week five of the Artists’ Soup Kitchen presented Annie Onyi Cheung’s, I Want More: a scaled-small installation and collective performance action over lunch. Serving quarter-sized portions with scaled down dishes and utensils, guests were required to ask for second or third servings of food. Diners were given a wooden cut-out hand, which they had to raise in order to signal a server who would then come around with a megaphone. The diner had to request “more food” through the megaphone, which signaled another server to come and provide additional helpings of food and drink. This sequence of actions encouraged lunching artists to consider the labour and risk involved when demanding satisfaction during unsatisfactory circumstances.
